Angela Hartley Brodie
摘要
Dr. Angela Hartley Brodie was born in Lancashire, England. She trained as an industrial chemist and worked on medical issues related to hormones, including research on contraceptives. She discovered aromatase inhibitors as a means of preventing estrogen production in women with breast cancer. Her discovery and subsequent treatment regimens have saved thousands of lives. Aromatase is an enzyme and a naturally occurring part of the human endocrine system, converting androgens such as testosterone to estrogens. The other components of the endocrine system are explained in the chapter.
