Biochemical and Biological Processing and Their Products

Enzymes and microbe agents (i.e., yeasts, fungi, and bacteria), followed by posterior biosynthesis of bioproducts, are the basis for the biochemical processing of lignin according to industrial biotechnology. It is worth to consider that the main purpose of bioprocesses is to replace raw materials and products of fossil origin by their renewable counterparts derived from biomass and their constituents. Thus, this chapter treats about enzymatic catalysis and microbes application to produce several organic chemicals. Furthermore, the vanillin production by fungi and the green chemistry principles application are also explored.
