The Biochemical Pathways in Plants

  • Silvio Vaz Jr.

摘要

As the most abundant plant biomass when compared to the other classes, lignocellulosic biomass is formed by cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, which are the three components of the cell wall and the morphological structure of plants, been lignin a phenolic macromolecule. This chapter describes the physicochemical considerations of the lignin macromolecule, the metabolic pathways related to its biosynthesis, and differences between hardwoods and softwoods in order to understand the biochemistry aspects behind the natural production of lignin.
