The discursive construal of news values in the Chinese context is examined from both the diachronic and synchronic perspectives in order to understand the change of news values and the subsequent influence on news reading across different platforms and different media. The first part of analysis investigates the similarities and differences of news values constructed to the same event in news stories reported on the print newspaper, the online website and the social media network of People’s Daily respectively. The second part of analysis makes comparisons of the news values established in the two versions from the official and metropolis news sources of People’s Daily and Global Times on the social media of Weibo.
