Genetic Perspective of Breast Cancer Patients: Implications for Family Members

  • Aslı Geçgel

摘要

In order to prevent, diagnose, and cure breast cancer, genetic testing is becoming more and more crucial. Technology has made it possible for us to better understand the genetic factors that impact the risk of breast cancer during the past 10 years. Many genes, particularly the BRCA1/2 genes, have high and moderate penetrance variations that raise the risk of breast cancer. Thus far, over 180 genetic variants have been linked to risk; however, the majority of them have negligible effects. The discovery of these mutations has sped up the development of genetic testing for high-risk patients and targeted gene therapy for breast cancer. An overview of significant hereditary breast cancer syndromes is provided in this section, along with suggestions for breast cancer patients and their relatives to lower their risk of breast.
