Oman’s historical separation from the Arab world explains why historians of the Arab world and the British Empire do not mention the Sultanate. Finally, the introduction discusses the abundant archival sources about Oman that are available in several archives. The long duration of Anglo-Omani relations means that there are extensive archival sources in the UK which are crucial caused by the absence of accessible records in Oman. Inevitably, this means that Oman’s history has been viewed through British eyes including reports written by officials, officers who served in the SAF, and oil company executives.
