Tam Ky City government, Vietnam held an international workshop on wetland conservation and promotion of AI eco-tourism. This case study illustrates how ecologically determined contributions (EDCs) scenario approach is used to integrate value chain of ecological goods and services (in particular, carbon sequestration) into a real planning exercise. The analysis is performed for Tam Ky City, Vietnam. In anticipation of a report, the city engaged a study group to examine alternate plans for future conservation and development. This article is based on interim results of the case study. First, this chapter identifies the project site and its main characteristics, and policy proposals for the site. Second, it describes methodology with particular emphasis on carbon sequestration potential. Third, the chapter addresses application of the developed methodology to the actual planning process. Finally, it involves ecologically determined contributions (EDCs) to climate change and biodiversity. One of the main features of this chapter is to demonstrate how carbon sequestration potential is taken into account in the real eco-tourism planning exercise with support from cutting-edge ICT such as industry 4.0, IoT and AI, and remote sensing and GIS technology. We found that wetland mapping with satellite image, GIS and digital technology could help the decision makers and managers implement new zoning measures and relevant plans, and have great influence on the proposed wetland policy and action. Wetland ecosytems in healthy condition provide a variety functions and deliver multiple goods and services, so contributing to climate commitments and more in general to social welfare (Croci and Lucchitta in Planning climate smart and wise cities: a multidisciplinary approach, Springer, Heidelberg, pp 141 2022). Eco-tourism consumes a lot of ecological goods and services. Therefore, eco-tourism consumption should be an integral part of entire consumption-based GHG accounting system. It is expected that this case study will contribute to understand the complex interplay between the climate and biodiversity crises towards more systemic approaches and solutions, mainstreaming nature-based solutions (NBS) in the approach.
