The chapter aims to elucidate the significance of environmental science and engineering professionals in promoting sustainability amid severe climate change. Here, we focus on how the field of environmental science and engineering has long recognized the importance of sustainability in combating climate change and ensuring environmental sustainability. Climate change resulting from human actions is one of the biggest concerns of this era. A number of studies have suggested that emissions are increasing global temperatures, which in turn are posing challenges to the environment, economies, and global society as a whole. To prevent even-worse effects from occurring, we must work to limit the volume of greenhouse gas emissions, all the while making sure that human civilizations and ecosystems adjust to the changes brought on by high greenhouse gas emissions. This climate issue can be addressed through policy, conservation, and technological innovations. This chapter outlines the viewpoints of professionals on the topic of sustainability and their possible approaches to tackling the issue; it then elaborates on these approaches and outlines the gaps where more research and discussion are needed. By overcoming cross-discipline barriers and building practical solutions, environmental science and engineering professionals become key experts in shaping sustainability.
