Persecuted for Poetry, Peaceful Protests and Public Nudity: Autoethnography of a Ugandan Exiled Ex-convict

How does a repressive pseudo-democracy crackdown on dissidents and silence dissent? In this autoethnography, I describe and analyse the repertoire of political persecution which Uganda’s state actors and public officers subjected me for my resistance work. As a dissident, I deploy poetry, peaceful protests, and public nudity to criticise failures of President Museveni’s government. Prosecution in the criminal justice system led to imprisonment in maximum-security prison. I was slapped with a travel ban, indefinitely suspended from my employment in the public service as a research fellow at Makerere University, denied monies court ordered as damages, rendered indigent when my bank accounts were frozen, publicly pathologized when state-prosecutors applied to court to subject me to involuntary mental examination, and miscarried my baby during torture.
