After a long and drawn-out disentangling from its perceived origins in Branwell’s torrid affair with Lydia Robinson, rereadings of Anne Brontë’s second novel, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848) have expanded into the realms of the eco-gothic, domestic satire and socio-political defiance.
