When Patrick Brontë brought home a box of wooden soldiers as a ninth birthday present for Branwell in 1826, little could he have imagined the enduring legacy of his gift. Branwell’s soldiers, shared with his sisters, would journey over land and sea in the discovery and colonisation of new worlds. They would develop, change and adopt new and exciting identities eventually founding the kingdoms of Glass Town and Angria, their adventures minutely chronicled by the Brontë siblings.
