Safety and Island Life: Community, Geography, and Intimate Partner Violence

In this chapter, intimate partner violence disclosure is discussed in the context of living on a small island where people tend to know each other. The chapter begins with a description of some of the challenges of talking about and reporting intimate partner violence in Saint Lucia, a small island in the Caribbean. The literature on intimate partner violence on islands is reviewed along with results from a survey of IPV in Saint Lucia. The chapter ends with a discussion of programming options in the island context.
