Understanding Continuous Glucose Monitoring
摘要
The inclusion of technology, in the care of patients living with Diabetes Mellitus, has become a common occurrence. Point-of-care testing (POCT), be it with a personal home glucose meter or with a hospital device, is limiting in terms of addressing trends towards hypo/hyperglycemia as well as the discomfort. Ongoing studies have all shared results indicating CGM reliability in the inpatient setting, with limitations in the in the presence of MRI, lithotripsy, diathermy, and electrosurgery. Still, continuous glucose monitors (CGMS) afford the user with the ability to view real-time data as well as trends 24 h around the clock. This allows for patient/provider collaboration towards optimizing glycemic control.
