How AI Transforms the World of the Fine Arts
摘要
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in the field of the fine arts. While the latest technologies have always influenced artistic practices, the current disruption by AI is unique in both scope and depth. It challenges traditional notions of human creativity and raises important ethical and legal concerns regarding authorship, copyright, and biases embedded within datasets. By reviewing recent research and practical applications, this entry outlines the creative capabilities of current AI tools and explores their diverse uses. AI tools are multifunctional, assisting artists in producing, analyzing, and marketing their work. The entry traces the historical discussions around computational creativity in art and presents empirical evidence that people generally fail to distinguish AI-generated art from human-made art, although they typically exhibit a preference for the latter. The advantages of AI include increased productivity, the exploration of novel creative possibilities, and new marketing opportunities. However, the adoption of AI also brings significant ethical and legal challenges. The entry adopts a broad perspective on AI’s potential, looking beyond current limitations while emphasizing that preserving human creativity remains essential to the future of the fine arts.
