The manuscript presents the issues of developing a physical model of point localized contact in spiroid gears with steel links. In particular, the model provides conformity to the designed gears related to materials and quality of link surfaces, lubrication and its volumetric temperature, contact stress, link velocities and relative velocity, velocities of movement of contact points on surfaces, shape of contact ellipse and its location with respect to sliding and total motion of the links. The scheme, layout, parameters and possible settings of the roller-disc friction machine are given. The results of tests on the friction machine of the contact of specimens corresponding to the contact in the designed spiroid gears with relatively small gear ratios (3.67 and 6.16) that replace bevel gears are given. It is practically shown that under the given conditions the contact has good resistance to scuffing. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations of the process of wear-in of the contacting surfaces are presented.
