Peer Domain: Social Capital—The Friends We Keep

The influence of peers, in particular friendship networks, plays a pivotal role in shaping the decisions of young individuals regarding complete abstention, engagement with, or withdrawal from street gang activities. This chapter examines key research findings from literature pertaining to the distinctions between individuals affiliated with street gangs and those who are not, with a particular focus on the influence of friendship networks.
