The chapter aims to examine policy and practice covering the growth of the urban street gang phenomenon in the England and Wales. However, no chapter focusing on policy and practice in England and Wales can ignore the contribution of the US. Thus, the chapter will begin with an examination of contemporary American gang interventions since 1987.
