An Analysis of Technological Applications in Community Policing and Their Performance Assessment Through A Systematic Review

Technology is pervasive, with each having a specific application domain, like those applied in community policing (CP). However, nothing is known about how technologies applied in this CP domain have fared since there is no systematic research that has assessed their performances. This has posed a challenge to designers, who need a clearer understanding of the lapses in existing CP technologies for better design options. To address this gap, this study adopted systematic literature review (SLR) using PRISMA protocol to explore three electronic journal databases for technologies applied since inception of CP. Through 62 document results, the study identifies communications and surveillance technologies as best performed technologies in CP, highlighting the need to integrate the two technologies for an effective community policing practice. Apart from contributions to Human Computer Interaction research terms, this study provides a framework for community policing technologies, which aids designers in the understanding of various technologies, and the best to employ on specific community policing goals.
