Effectiveness of Environmental Education and Awareness Campaigns in Fostering Commitment and Behavioural Change Among Nigerians
摘要
This chapter assesses the efficacy of environmental education and awareness campaigns deployed through various channels, including schools, community initiatives and media outlets, to foster commitment and behavioural change. The purpose was to examine awareness, knowledge and behavioural shifts resulting from these campaigns. The chapter analysed survey responses from 384 respondents from Cross River and Anambra States to identify successful strategies and barriers in cultivating commitment to eco-friendly practices like open defecation free (ODF), proper waste disposal and water pollution. The findings show that exposure to the campaigns led to increased availability of toilets in households. The researcher recommends a more resonant and impactful approach towards promoting sustainable behaviours among Nigerians, especially as it relates to waste disposal.
