Adaptation and mitigation are the two best-known strategies for fighting climate change. While adaptation addresses the impacts of climate change, mitigation addresses the causes. The two approaches must work together for a meaningful result. Nigeria has the National Adaptation Strategy and Plan of Action for Climate Change in Nigeria (NASPACCN) and the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Framework aimed at achieving her climate adaptation priorities through a sectoral approach. The realisation of these goals depends on the knowledge and awareness of citizens about climate change issues. This chapter explores how social media can be used to educate Nigerian citizens about climate change adaptation and mitigation to achieve the government’s climate action target. Leaning on social learning theory, the chapter employs a qualitative method of literature review to explore the role of social media in the adaptation and mitigation of climate change. The nexus between climate education and climate adaptation and mitigation is outlined, and recommendations are made for policymakers concerning greater efforts towards mitigation measures as well as aggressive social media campaigns for public education regarding adaptation and mitigation. It is also recommended that community leaders, groups, and sectoral workers should be integrated into the government’s climate goals through social media.
