Introduction

In just a few decades, computers have transformed our lives at a pace never seen before by humankind. From aiding humanity in sending the first men to the moon to having similarly powerful computers on our desktops just a few years later, computers have been increasingly integrating into our lives. To quote the title of Ray Kurzweil’s (1990) foreshadowing book, the age of intelligent machines has also already arrived. In parallel, music technologies rapidly evolved from allowing sound to be recorded to creating music synthetically through electric devices. With the new millennium, computers became the centerpiece for music production and creation.
