The Difference That Gender Makes

  • Hermia Morton Anthony

摘要

The Difference Gender Makes, establishes a gendered perspective of plantation work and the social construction of the identities of the women of African women descent who participated in the uprising. Here the women establish the dehumanizing and unsafe conditions of work for themselves and their children. Plantation work, domestic responsibilities and volunteer involvement created an unending cycle of burdens to women’s lives. There is a seamless intricacy between performing regular, everyday activities and their involvement in the planning and execution of the uprising. The women displayed political consciousness that was articulated through a sophisticated political analysis that had been missing from colonized versions of the history.
