The Context of the Uprising

  • Hermia Morton Anthony

摘要

This chapter elucidates the complexities of this uprising by examining not only what is explicitly stated but also what remains hidden or marginalized. It analyses the context of the uprising. It reviews the social, political, economic climate of the period and the racialized environment, highlighting what conventional historians have said about it. It notes what is left unsaid and under-represented. The analysis delves into accounts filtered through the biases of colonial sentiments and interpretations that suppressed the unspeakable truths, and procedures of an academic discipline that censored and ignored the authenticity of story telling, and the reliability and truthfulness of oral accounts passed down through generations.
