Utilizing Social Media for Understanding Public Opinion on Transportation in Indian Cities
摘要
We are currently in an age of increasing urbanisation, where population growth and transportation-related issues in cities of India are rising at rates that were previously unheard of. Hence, it is important for the government to know the perception of people of India regarding the existing transportation services and the requirements to improve the existing services. To this end, this study investigates whether Online Social Media (OSM) can be utilized to replace expensive surveys to understand the public opinion on transportation in Indian cities. A dataset of tweets related to transportation in Indian cities was collected, annotated and pre-processed, and the tweets were classified into three categories positive-trans, negative-trans, and neutral tweets using a fine-tuned RoBERTa model. We further conduct a city-wise analysis of the positive-trans and negative-trans tweets to understand the expectations and demands of the people in different cities.
