The present study examines Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling’s writings Scenen aus dem Geisterreich and Theorie der Geisterkunde, treating them as significant lay theological publications and situating them within a broader European context. It identifies affinities with Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy and Friedrich G. Klopstock’s Messias, as well as with William Blake’s illustrations of Dante’s Comedy. Through comparative analysis, this chapter demonstrates the intricate interconnections between Stilling’s educational endeavours in popular religious culture and the canonical giants of cultural literature, illustrating a dynamic interplay of influence and divergence that spans both interconfessional and intercultural contexts.
