Why We Need Moral Machines

This chapter presents the case for having machines with the ability to tell between right and wrong, in two ways: first by presenting a case study involving a future service robot and an unfortunate incident, and second, by responding to the arguments against creating machines with morals. An argument is given as to why we need moral machines above and beyond traditional AI and Robot Safety techniques, by reframing the issue as one to do with moral assurance.
