A hybrid variety is comprised of \(F_{1}\) population from a cross and is used as the commercial variety cultivated by farmers. While the idea of use of hybrids was first suggested by W. J. Beal in 1878 hybrid variety technology originated from the discovery of hybrid vigour in maize hybrids by maize breeders in early 20th century leading to the development of maize variety crosses.
