The Resurgence

In the twentieth century, the myth of the werewolf experienced an extraordinary mutation and expanded as never before. This occurred, thanks to its entrance into cinema in 1935, which produced a true mythical explosion: since then, more than 150 movies about the werewolf have been made, as well as a good number of others in which it is a complementary or marginal character. The filmmakers did not base their scripts on a literary work, as occurred with the vampire movies that were inspired by the novel written by Bram Stoker. However, Stevenson’s novel about Dr. Jekyll and the evil Mr. Hyde contributed to promoting the idea of a dual mythical being, divided between a type of beast inclined to evil and a rational and kind human being.
