1960–1970 Photographic Representation of Italian Migrants on the Arc Lémanique

This chapter investigates how the Italian diaspora of the 1960s/1970s was represented in French-speaking illustrated Swiss magazines. The research concentrated on the archives of L’Illustré, the only and most popular illustrated magazine of the Suisse Romande in those years. This magazine often featured seasonal workers identified as migrants. The purpose of the chapter is to clarify how this visual representation was influenced by the political, sociological and economical Swiss and Italian contexts.
