Climate-Resilient Aquatic Ecosystems: A Roadmap for Sustainable Development
摘要
Biodiversity, peoples’ livelihoods, and climate regulation are the core reasons for the significance of Egypt’s aquatic ecosystems. Climate change, habitat destruction, pollution, and overfishing threaten them, though. This chapter therefore seeks to develop a practical roadmap towards their resilience to climate change by focusing on aquaculture, fisheries, blue food supply chains, consumer behavior, and marine protected areas (MPAs). The roadmap has specific objectives, desired outcomes, strategic targets, and priority actions focusing on resilience building, sustainability promotion, and long-term health of Egyptian blue food systems. Recommendations included improving policy frameworks; investing in research; capacity-building enhancement; promoting sustainable practices; and enhancing monitoring and evaluation. These strategies will help Egypt achieve its 2030 Sustainable Development Vision while aligning with global climate change and biodiversity targets, thus providing a planned method of addressing current challenges for a safe future for its aquatic ecosystems.
