This chapter develops a decomposition technique that can be used to circumvent the curse of dimensionality for counters. It can be viewed as a step towards more general techniques to be presented in subsequent chapters in Part II. The basic idea underlying the decomposition technique applies to QPLEX maps using either simple or advanced transition dynamics. To ease notational burdens, we work with QPLEX maps defined by simple transition dynamics.
