This chapter explores the employment conditions and hyper-precarity faced by Syrians under temporary protection in Türkiye. Using a qualitative approach, the study examines the legislative frameworks, socio-economic challenges, and the impact of the 2016 EU- Türkiye Statement on the labour market integration of Syrian refugees. Findings reveal significant barriers to formal employment, leading to widespread informal work characterized by low wages, poor working conditions, and limited legal protections. The concept of hyper-precarity is used to analyse the compounded vulnerabilities experienced by refugees. Policy recommendations include simplifying work permit processes, incentivizing formal employment, and implementing comprehensive integration programs aligned with the Global Compact on Refugees principles. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the need for a multi-level governance approach to enhance the socio-economic inclusion of Syrian refugees in Türkiye.
