Selection Criteria in Leadership Elections of PASOK (2007–2021)

This chapter describes the political background in which PASOK held open multi-candidate primaries for leadership in 2007, 2015, 2017 and 2021. It examines the electoral context with a focus on the candidates’ campaign strategies for the post. It analyses in depth the voting behaviour of party selectors against the three ordered selection criteria of the Stark model using polling data as well as qualitative insights from interviews with candidates, their closest aides, prominent party officials and political journalists.
