摘要

Allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma are the commonest chronic respiratory diseases in the pediatric age group and are associated with impairment of health-related quality of life. These two conditions frequently coexist and are risk factors for development of each other. Common pathophysiological elements play a role in development of these diseases as both the upper and lower respiratory tracts have structurally similar anatomical, functional, and immunological features. Common genetic and epigenetic mechanisms play role in the etiology of both diseases. Treatment of the individual components has synergistic effect on disease control in people with concomitant allergic rhinitis or asthma.
