Radiologic Evaluation of Lower Respiratory System

Pediatric chest radiology is a complex subject. This section provides a brief overview of imaging modalities. Choosing the right examination becomes even more critical due to the increasing number of available techniques and the complexity of anomalies and variations in children. Furthermore, it is necessary to prioritize children’s protection from radiation when selecting examinations. The ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle, which focuses on keeping radiation levels as low as reasonably achievable, allows for the generation of diagnostic chest radiography with very low radiation doses. Additionally, factors such as respiratory and motion artifacts and procedures requiring anesthesia should be taken into account when selecting an examination. The chosen examination should be most suitable for the specific disease or symptom, involve the least ionizing radiation, be easily accessible, and be cost-effective with collaboration between clinicians and radiologists.
