摘要

This chapter explores the integration of family therapy into Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) within the context of a Partial Hospital Program (PHP) for adolescents. Research supports the importance of incorporating families in DBT-A treatment, given the impact of emotional difficulties on family dynamics and the transactional nature of more chronic emotion dysregulation. This chapter outlines the following components within a DBT PHP (1) initial intake, assessment, and conceptualization of the family system, (2) family-based components of treatment, (3) main skills used within DBT family work, and (4) common challenges when working with families, and (5) discharge planning from a PHP. The McLean Hospital 3East DBT PHP is used as an example to better elucidate this treatment approach. Additionally, a case example is woven throughout the chapter to better illustrate specific treatment approaches and interventions.
