Visual and Craft Artists: Insights into Diverse Incomes and Hybrid Careers
摘要
In this chapter, we present findings on the incomes and work patterns of artists from the ‘Visual Arts Work’ 2022 survey of the Australian visual arts sector. Of the 702 completed surveys, 523 were from respondents who primarily identified as visual or craft artists—this large sub-group is the focus of analysis in this chapter. We begin by describing demographic characteristics of visual and craft artists before turning to a closer analysis of education, incomes and career development. This includes discussion of issues relating to gender, funding models and barriers to participation. We conclude by pointing to potential ways the data might inform future policy.
