This chapter examines issues related to how prominent African languages are in higher education, drawing on the broader discourses as well as the views and experiences of our survey respondents. The questions we explore in this chapter relate to the ways in which African languages are—or are not—embedded into different educational spaces and contexts, including beyond language and linguistics classes, for example in history, sociology and economics courses. It also explores whether certain African languages are more widely taught or used to exemplify specific points or topics, and whether there are specific sub-disciplines which make more widespread use of African languages than others.
