Hazards are usually the outcome of a combination of extreme natural or man-made events and unplanned development activities affecting increasing population. However, these are manageable through systematic observations and analysis of the hazards to provide measures related to prevention, mitigation, preparedness, emergency response, and recovery. The principal aim of the present research work involves the use of GIS techniques to mitigate the problem of urban fire hazards. This involves identifying the exact location of the victim’s place, its connectivity, and accessibility. Clear knowledge about the city layout with the locations and availability of water source, pumping station, nature of the thoroughfares, and types of the fire-management tools, is necessary for this task. The modern techniques of Geomatics are helpful to prepare high quality map, with greater resolution and accuracy, such as transport map, location map of water body, location of fire stations, and urban land use. With the collaboration of these maps, I have constructed a standard geospatial model for the quick response mechanism for fire management of the city. The model is expected to help the administration for managing fire hazards not only in the KMC area but also for similar environmental conditions.
