Physiology of the Nose
摘要
Nasal mucosa is the organ of the nose and must be highly respected in any kind of surgery. The nose is responsible for respiration, humidification, and heating of inspired air, olfaction, defense, and speech production. Therefore, the surgeon must have a thorough understanding of airflow patterns, mucociliary clearance, the nasal cycle, and the position of the turbinates. The importance of the internal nasal valve and external valve should always be kept in mind, and the surgeon should target on functional rhinoplasty by respecting the integrity of the mucosa as much as possible.
