Then, gauze strips in glove fingers, Merocel sponge, and absorbable hemostatic packs became available and facilitated the use of packing for the patients and the surgeon. Silicone splints are currently the main intranasal splints available for rhinoplasty. Transseptal quilting suture is a viable option where no packing or splinting is used. The use of packing and splinting has many advantages and disadvantages. They help to prevent bleeding and hematoma, but they also cause discomfort, such as pain, and difficulty in sleeping and eating for the patient.
