(AtomConcept) An Atomic Concept for Automating Urban Design Creativity

摘要

The paper proposes the structure and behavior of an atomic concept for automating urban design creativity. Atomicity implies a fundamental unit of knowledge representation that, along a dedicated analogical reasoning process, may dynamically and analogically compose to structure any concept. Meaning that every material/conceptual entity may be unilaterally represented by the proposed atomic concept. The atomic concept is defined based on a pre-encoded belief about the world that is shaped by a three-perspectival ontology of urbanism. It may be instantiated to recursively model concepts as complex as self/world-aware agents; such as the theory of mind concepts of “I”, “Us”, “Others”, or “It”; the same way other simpler concepts like “a fence”, “water”, “a tree”, etc., may be modeled. The proposed bottom-up approach, which supports the dynamic analogical compositionality of fundamental concepts that evolve into ever more complex ones, contrasts the top-down black-box approach that pivots the contemporary field of artificial intelligence (AI). The proposed bottom-up approach is inherently multi-modal, white-box capable of modeling the theory of mind’s spatial experience, and it consequently sets a novel trajectory for the field of artificial psychological/general intelligence (AGI). To cope with these intentions, the paper introduces the atomic concept’s formal and semantic facets, introduces the designated analogical reasoning process, demonstrates it as a universal model of natural language, and discusses its contributability to a computer-aided creative design process of spatiality.
