From UAVs to As-Built BIM Models: Automation in Infrastructure Management and Monitoring Processes

The interaction of independent variables has generated in Italy a context characterized by interpretative complexity in the field of infrastructure. The succession of tragic events, recorded in recent years, such as the collapses, has prompted the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) to draw up guidelines that address the aspects related to monitoring, setting deadlines to the census and proactive measures to safeguard against potential hazards and mitigate risks as-sociated with infrastructure vulnerabilities Highlighted this need, the main goal of this research is to propose an automated system/methodologies for the analysis and monitoring of infrastructures, according to ministerial guidelines, which interconnects the acquisition processes, integration, and processing of data from both aerial and on-site sensors. The obtained database is therefore implemented on a BIM (Building Information Modelling) model, allowing the end user to interface with a scale model of easy interpretation, able to report the exact state of the structure and the distribution of critical issues, ensuring road network, planning of interventions on the entire road network. The integration between new remote sensing technologies associated with artificial intelligence, allow the production of significant amounts of data that can be implemented in BIM models for a rapid consultation.
