Introduction
摘要
This introduction reveals that sustainability is neither a new nor a firm concept. It has evolved as an integral part of Western civilization and has been strongly shaped by the cultural, political, legal and economical context while searching for justice. Recently, the rather public law concept of sustainability with its continental law features expanded and became paralleled with the rather private law concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) with its common law features. The modern concept of sustainability is determined by its roots, evolution and the endeavours of the UN and the EU. However, what is its meaning, i.e. what is the European style of sustainability aka the Sustainability European Style? What is its legal regime, in particular how is it incorporated into the EU law and policies?
