The ESG Approach for Planning, Design and Correct Management of Green Area
摘要
This paper starts from the consideration that, within the framework of the Green Deal promoted by the European Union, the programming, planning and design of new green spaces (as well as the redevelopment/regeneration of existing ones) represent a key element. However, when such initiatives are not conducted with the correct approach, they can lead to effects that are completely opposite to the intended objectives. In this context, the transposition of the ESG approach in the urban context could represent an interesting opportunity. The ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) framework refers to a new mode of financial investment that takes due account (as a key element of choices) of the environmental and social impacts. The ESG approach from the strictly corporate field has rapidly moved to that of public administrations that are exploring the integration of ESG parameters into their urban development strategies. The paper examines the specific ways in which the ESG approach can be applied to the city and explores some case studies (Portland's economic development strategy, the protection of biodiversity in Kanazawa, Japan, policies for accessibility and inclusiveness of public spaces in Sydney). In conclusion, a number of techniques and tools are highlighted, declined in a logic consistent with the ESG approach, which could make urban and territorial transformations more effective with a view to sustainable transition.
