Building Stable Territorial Areas for Rural Development Policies in Galicia (Spain)

In the context of the LEADER initiative in the European Union, Local Action Groups (LAGs) have become the territorial areas for implementing rural development policies. In the case of Spain, LAGs manifest themselves in the territory as supra-municipal areas that bring together many municipalities. However, throughout each programming period, the map of LAGs has undergone modifications, preventing the consolidation of a distinct identity in these territories. Through a comparative study of different supra-municipal scale divisions in Galicia, we aim to identify more stable and recognized boundaries to contribute to a better implementation of rural development policies in the region.
