An Experience of Cooperation in the Mediterranean Basin

Greenland project (GREEN-skiLls for a sustainable Development) is born from the need to explore new ways to deal with some problems related to social inclusion within Mediterranean countries, in a context characterized by economic politic and social crisis, environmental degradation and climatic uncertainty. The Mediterranean area can be seen as a laboratory where it is possible to experiment new development models sustainable from the eco-nomic, social and environmental point of view. The Greenland project, co-ordinated by the Calabria Region Community Planning Department and funded by European Union through the ENI CBC MED Program, has the goal to promote social inclusion in the Mediterranean involving Neets and women in patterns of training and work experience in the context of circular and green economy. The project may be seen as a drop in the sea when we look at the problems that we live in the Mediterranean area today. However, a number of young people of different Mediterranean Countries experimented new ways to up-skill and re-skill through the training programs and opportunities offered by the project. Also, Greenland facilitated the creation of a “green-network” involving different Mediterranean political and economic institutions and organizations that will keep on with innovation policies more and more targeted and lasting.
