The Administrative Reform Trajectory in Italy: 1993–2023

The chapter examines the main paths of reform that have characterised the Italian experience over the past thirty years. This is a relatively short period in the history of the Italian state, but a very intense one in terms of institutional changes and, in particular, administrative reforms. The first section describes the main factors, internal and external, that affected the reforms. The second examines the content of the reforms, focusing on a dozen thematic areas. The third sets out some concluding remarks.
