Word Heritage List and Production Landscapes: Open Access (Re)sources from UNESCO and ICOMOS Digital Archives

One of the first doctrinal texts to clarify the concept of cultural tourism is the Charter of Cultural Tourism, drawn up by ICOMOS on the occasion of the International Seminar on Contemporary Tourism and Humanism held in Brussels in 1976. Industrial tourism is a specific form of cultural tourism, whose aim is to promote and publicize the remains of industrial culture as highlighted in The Nizhny Tagil Charter for the Industrial Heritage (2003), in the Greenwich Declaration (2011), in the Joint ICOMOS-TICCIH Principles for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage Sites, Structures, Areas and Landscapes «The Dublin Principles» (2011). The aim of this work is to provide some brief considerations about industrial heritage and production landscape sites, inscribed on the World Heritage List, from an historical point of view. In more detail this paper presents, in the first part, the results of a qualitative-lexical analysis of the mentioned doctrinal texts. It also shows the outcomes of a research carried out from a quantitative-qualitative analysis of Management Plans of industrial heritage and production landscape sites inscribed on the World Heritage List through the excavation of the ICOMOS and UNESCO digital archives.
