Social Groups in the Prison Community
摘要
In the foregoing pages, the word “group” has been used to designate a collectivity, or simply a number of persons. The men in the penitentiary may be thought of as a prison group. Similarly, the one hundred inmates who work in the knit shop are a shop group, and, again, the 600 men who reside in A-Cellhouse may be called the A-House group. We also have used the word “group” in referring to murderers, mental defectivesmental defectives, and so on. “Group” in this sense is a numerical aggregation of persons who classify as being similar in some way. It is a convenient way of categorizing people.
